Just imagine: an 18-meter-diameter basin filled with water, in which over 200 white porcelain bowls float, set in motion by a gentle current. Melodious sounds and acoustic vibrations, created without the intervention of a performer, then emanate from this bluish expanse. An immersive, contemplative experience awaits you this summer at the Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection. This aquatic and musical installation will take place in the sublime Rotonde of the Parisian monument, under the famous dome, from June 5 to September 21, 2025.
The name of this work? " Clinamen ". Taken from Epicurean physics, " clinamen " refers to the exhaustion of the possibilities of atoms in motion. And therein lies the originality of this installation. Each sensory experience is unique for the visitor, and constantly renewed.
Behind this original visual and auditory work is the artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot. Both a French composer and visual artist, Céleste Boursier-Mougenot has exhibited widely in France and abroad. He represented France at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015. His work has also been exhibited at the Pinacothèque de São Paulo in 2009, the Barbican Centre in London in 2010, the National Gallery Victoria in Melbourne in 2013, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and the Centre Pompidou-Metz in 2015, and the SFMoMA in San Francisco in 2017.
His installation " clinamen " was first unveiled in 2017 at the CAPC Musée de Bordeaux, after the artist had conceived the work in his Parisian home, in a 2m50 inflatable bathtub! Since then, " clinamen " has come a long way. The work is presented here at the Bourse de Commerce in an unprecedentedly large format. We appreciate its in situ dimension and the beautiful alchemy between Céleste Boursier-Mougenot 's work and Tadao Ando's sublime dome. Admiring " clinamen " in the rotunda, one is left with the impression that the installation was quite simply conceived for the Parisian monument.
In the end, this contemplative installation invites us to rest around the basin. The music produced by the clashing bowls creates a much-needed sense of zenitude in a world where we tend to live life at 100 km/hour. " Clinamen " should appeal to visitors who want to slow down and take their time!
To discover this " space of contemplation " and enjoy the " clinamen " installation designed by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, visit the Bourse de Commerce today. You have until September 21, 2025 to enjoy this unusual and profoundly Zen experience!
