Art and history lovers, mark your calendars! The Château de Fontainebleau and other nearby venues are set to host the 14th edition of the Festival de l'histoire de l'art from June 6 to 8, 2025. This major cultural event is organized by theInstitut national d'histoire de l'art (INHA) and the French Ministry of Culture. This year's festival features Austria, acountry with a rich artistic heritage , and explores the theme of " The real, the fake", questioning authenticity in art through conferences, exhibitions, performances and debates.
The 2025 edition offers an immersion in Austrian art , from the Venus of Willendorf to the VienneseSecession and contemporary figures . A delegation of over 30 Austrianspeakers - artists, curators, filmmakers and academics - will take part in the exchanges, offering a transnational perspective on arthistory .
The theme " The Real, the Fake" explores notions of authenticity, forgery and restoration. Lectures will address topics such as provenance research , the impact of restorations on the perception of works and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence in art. Highlights include discussions on museumforgeries , historical restorations and arthoaxes .
